I've tried wakesurfing with a kitefoil (without rope) and it doesn't work.

You just need a bigger wing like the Takuma, GoFoil, Naish Kai, or big Slingshot wings.

for wakesurfing, if you use a kitefoil it can work from say 15-20mph, but at that speed with a wake boat, the wake flattens out.
For swell, you are probably going to need a strong swell probably 2-3m+, and may only be able to work it at a certain angle.
For waves, you might need to be gnarly, because the wave that makes it work will be, too.
wing size 1000-1500cm2 is the call.
