What's a ram-air kite? I only use Flysurfers and Peter Lynns....
OHHH !!!
You mean the old F-ARCS?
Yeah they're ancient history.
Maybe this Pump dude is confused with the newer Ozone, Flysurfer, and other TWIN-SKIN kites that are like freaken amazingggg!!!!

The same ol’ problems keep recurring: ...... Ram airs are INFERIOR on downwind legs
Haha.. nah.. you're just not using it properly. In fact, I bet you've never flown a RAM-AIR... well.. [1] they don't exist now (ARC, F-ARC, etc), and [2] The Twin-Skins today are by far more stable, more controllable, more fine tuned to wind changes and gusts and way more powerful than its comparable LEI.
Wasn't Pete Cabrinha created that so called LEI race-kite to compete with the foils? Haha.. where is that kite today I ask?

Hehehe. Yep that's a goodie.
Now back to crashing kites. Here is a personal factoid. I have never had to swim in when flying a foil kite. The only times that I have been unable to relaunch a kite in the water is with lei's.
Has to float in from about 500m out on Wednesday because my bloody ozone edge wouldn't relaunch in sub 10 knots. Had I been on my chrono it would never have falled out of the sky to begin with!!!!!!

It's funny. Way back in the beginning of kiting when it was Flexifoil Blades vs inflatables, I was constantly told everything that the op was saying.
I used to kite on a 4.9 Blade, day after day after day at a famous surf spot in Southern California. Wave after wave after wave. I would have a blast. End of summer water would get warm enough to wear boardshorts, southswells, girls on the beach etc. I would do all this & someone like the OP would tell me, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" or "your not actually having fun, you didn't get all those waves etc." I would look at them & just laugh, shake my head.
If someone wants to ride one, who the flock cares!!!!
