The ideal wind report for a spot!

Postby Kykeon » Sat Dec 09, 2017 7:04 pm

What would you like to see in a wind report for a spot?
I.e. Which processed data/graphs?
(raw data are 10 minute samples with averages and gust)

Please give me ideas (your wishes)

That's not forecasting, its analyzing existing data.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My ideas/ specifications so far:

* Overall filter for daylight only and not heavy rain

Windroses like this:

for:
-Overall all data,
-Last 12 months (2 per month)
-Average windrose per month (using all data)

Charts
Image
* water temperature per day of year (average min max)
* air temperature per day of year (average min max)

* wind speed vs time (average day profile for each month)
Image

* gust as % of speed per direction
>> per speed

I think this is an excellent idea, and I want to encourage you to keep doing it.

I need to think on it a bit, but for me the only time I would use this data is when I am planning on visiting a spot I’m not familiar with. Data like number of days with wind over X knots is great, but other information is also very valuable, like which wind direction is actually useful for kiting. I think Toby
has tried to use features of this form to document information like that for kite spots. He would really need both sets of info to be fully useful.

Another piece of info could be a running tally of whether other kiters are present/planning to arrive/definitely not arriving. Not truly weather, I know, but I always want to know “is anyone else out?” Maybe a bit much for a traditional weather app but sure would be nice. Also a link to a nearby weathercam wiuld be cool.
