True C kites 14 meters

Postby Kehler » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:44 pm

if I need a big kite 14 meters, and it was primarily used for unhooked. do you get better use of a sle kite, rather than a clean c Kite?
I think about it in terms of the less good windrange c kites have and the smaller kite I sail is 12meter. Then the range with a C Kite will be to small.

Thanks

Very few actually want a pure C kite and few manufacturers offer a pure C kite anymore. So perhaps a hybrid c-shape will give you what you want?

If it’s a pure C check out the Impact2. Comes in 15,13,11,9,8 and 7 meter options. It’s a wakestyle beast but forget about it if you want it to do more.

Otherwise the GTS4 is a great alternative if you want to do a little more than wakestyle. C kites just can’t compete on wind range and hybrid Cs give you that great middle(ish) option of staying hooked-in when you want to. Friend of mine even uses his GTS for strapless wave riding. Turns crazy fast and caps out on depower to still be an intermediate/advanced kite.

Sorry, just noticed your gear preference. RPM would be my suggestion if you want to stay with Slingshot.

Any 14m will already have less wind range than a smaller kite due to the winds you'll be flying it in, there are diminishing returns. If you already have a 12 I'd just get one of the 17m light wind kites so you can actually get some pop.

Thank you for the good answers
I have 12 and 10 in torch, so the question is, will I get more out of a 14 RPM than a 14 torch. I'm afraid that 14 torch gets too small window when you also take lowend on the c kite with consideration?

I am looking to get most slack out of the Kite, but in Generally, will the slack become less/smaller the bigger the kite gets?

Easier to get slack when the wind is lighter, so a hybrid-C performs pretty good, and will probably give you a slightly better lowend. RPM is a good contender in that type of kite. Don't think the range is that much better than a 14m Torch, but your lowend will be better.

That being said.... I have a LegacyV1 14m, and I love it. Has a bit more projected surface than a Torch, so you will notice a difference with your 12m, but don't expect to win 5 knots of lowend. Windrange is no problem....you can handle a doubling of windspeed without needing to pull the depower yet. 6-Line relaunch takes a bit longer, but 5-line no problem.

They're on sale at the moment, 25% discount.

C kites are best between 7m and 13m in size. Larger C kites tend to be slow, don't boost high and don't have as good upwind characteristics. Smaller C kites are the nicest. Get a 14 RPM instead that's my suggestion.

Hi edt

I Think I will go for the 14 RPM.

Hi edt

Dash could be an option to consider as well if you want bridled C-ish kite with better low end.
BTW Torch 14 is a sweet kite not sure that RPM is much better in LW aspect. It definitely needs proper technique to get the best from it.
According to me,it is the pop you might be looking for either. As someone mentioned above, in light winds you'll get some slack from hybrids as well.
