Friend of mine misfortune..
First day of his 2 weeks’ vacation, pilot’s error, he pulled on the wrong side of the bar after a simple rotation and smashes his kite on the water
Kite as less than 20 hours on it..

Knot Core's Fault.
Easy to make a kite more robust, but always trading weight. Lighter kites fly better. Kites, boards and people can all break. Whats new?
Just tape it and ride it. Kite-Fix mesh and glue works well too. No need to cancel vacation. No need to slam the brand Core.
Conflict of interest disclaimer: I've never flown a Core kite.

Tape it for the the vacation then send it to Airtime. They can make it look and fly like new again.

When beginner gets into tricks, he needs an open Ckite more than a experienced rider, maybe not yet for its performance but for the fact that you can smash it all day long.

This post should be retitled "How to ruin your vacation by not spending enough time on the trainer kite."
Your mate should just be humble, pay for his mistake...literally, and not blame it on a brand for his mishandling.
Buy new car. Drive it out of the lot into a tree. Blame Car Company on a forum.

at my local spot 2 out of 2 kites that literally exploded upon impact on the water were both core kites.
ive crashed my best cabo and especially my learner kahoona kite hard on the water, without any problems *knockonwood*
coincidence? probably.
my advice, when youre just starting out learn on a kite thats 500 bucks and not 2000.-

tape should fix that for the vacation. But yeah, if that is a new kite and has only impacted water, it is absolutely a manufacturing problem. Never owned a core kite, but I have bashed kites into water really hard and never ripped one like that. Hell, I have bashed kites onto land and stuck them in trees and never had that happen. I’ve never seen that happen except to old kites, or kites washed over by waves. If it has been exposed to a lot of uv, landed on shells, left flapping on beach, or had any pre-existing damage then it is understandable. Something as simple as a pin hole can create a weakness that will lead to catastrophic tearing, but if that is actually a new kite (and properly cared for), that should not occur.

I gotta say, some people were promoting Core kites a few years back, tomahawked it 20ft from the beach where everyone could see it, kite split open like a ripe watermelon; noone would touch Core with a 10ft pole after that. Seen plenty of North, Slignshot and Cabrinhas tomahawked in same way, just relaunch and keep riding, no issues...
