I am just talking about the skills riding that wave.

All the rest needs lots of experience for sure.

Plain simple skills.

Getting into the wave from behind, and then riding the chop fast...most of us could do. Simple riding skills. Nothing else.

Then add the rest you mentioned, that makes all the difference a normal rider doesn't have. Me neither.

I think there is a lot of conflation...to just try to ride the wave and hoping for the best doesn't really require a lot of skill. It does require some skill tho.
However that does not preclude this guy from being very skilled and having planed this very carefully. Most of the planning just makes it easier to get out of it alive and especially if something should happen.

Like a buddy is saying: "Tow-in surfing is easy..its getting caught that is hard". That is why it takes practice and training..its for when you get caught.

And unless you’ve been in the tube at least 100 times you have no idea how easy or hard it is... There is so much to learn.. control the board, your stance, your speed, body weight distribution, then add a completely different set of kite control skills to what you need in flat water ... an endless list of skills you can only learn by doing and getting caught in the wave over and over again... and it’s no piece of cake, believe me!

Everybody thinks Cabo verde or one eye strapless riders are just born that way... it’s insanely difficult!!!

hypothetically I can do double 720s in bed🙄

Oh i'm sure there was medical standing by and jet skis just waiting for him to crash. With a name like Hyndai sponsoring this, he was probably getting paid.

How hard can something like this really be knowing you got safety on standby, all the fame and glory, and a big fat check with your name on it? Not that difficult, and throw in basic wave riding skills in the mix and it becomes a piece of cake. I'm sure anyone can come with the "Passion and dedication" experience when there's a check involved

But big props for the guy doing it, I would love to see a bigger pop off the wave next time, maybe a loop.

OK, genius, let me see you do it! Passions need to get funded somehow. No choice but go with whatever crap is available. But if you wanna be a cynical crusty old man, it’s your funeral...

Ok Toby sure, it only requires basic skills....

Just like driving a car. Steer the wheel, apply the brake and accellerator, change some gears.

Going by your theory anyone who drives a car could race formula one. Same skill level. Apply accellerator, brake, change gears turn steering wheel.

Anyone who can tack a foil could win foil racing. No extra skill required. Just go upwind and downwind turn round some flags. Easy right?.

Speed kiting, hell what a doodle that is. Just go straight. Don't even need to go upwind. Any newbie that can water start is ample skilled enough to get a world kitesurfing speed record

Storm riders riding 40 + knots. No extra skill required there as long as you can stay upwind give it a go.

This is completely wrong.

Just because tricks are not involved this does not mean years of skill building does need to take place.

Each one of the above things I listed above does require supreme skill honed over years of practice.
Riding a world record sized wave would be no different.

Very Impressive for what it is.
But Im really torn with Nazarre`s "waves" or should I say "very high speed tall crumbling wall of water".
Nazarre feels like a good excuse to get a "wave surfed world record". This was not even remotely surfed. I have definitly more respect for surfers giving a go at Teahupoo "code red".
