Help - Purchased Old Kite - Does it need bridles?

Postby DariKite » Mon Jan 29, 2018 8:58 pm

Hi,

I am new to kiteboarding. Never practiced before and bought all my equipment online in the USA but I live in South America and my mom will bring me the equipment from the USA. I bought this "new" kite very cheap and as a spare, according to the owner it was never inflated. It´s an Ocean Rodeo Diablo 14m. I have no idea what year it was made on but I chatted with someone on the manufacturer´s website and they said the Diablos are 2008 - 2010.

My question is: does it need to include the bridles? Is it supposed to come with bridles? Because the pictures in the ad show the kite but don´t show the bridles. If it doesn´t include bridles then I have no idea if I can hook up my lines directly or can I buy aftermarket bridles? But how do I know which kind of bridles? I guess they´re different for each kite. Should I return the item if it doesn´t include bridles?

My bar is a 2014 Cabrinha Overdrive 1x Recoil 49cm - 57cmwith lines (if it makes a difference).

I attached pictures.

Thank you

If you have to ask a question like that then you should probably return it and take a lesson first before buying gear sight unseen.

I will take lessons but I had to purchase the gear first because my mother can bring me the stuff in a few days and I bought the gear very cheap. Where I live all the stuff I purchased would have cost me double or triple what I paid in the USA. So doing that was not not an option for me. Thanks for the tip though. :thumb:

That's a C kite Diablo from I think 2006. The 2010 diabolo has yellow on the corner. Anyway this kite doesn't use a bridle. Be careful man. Talk to the other local kiters, go to a local shop hook up with the other people who ride there. They can help you.

Important thing to note. Ocean Rodeo kites require a 4" extension on the rear lines starting with all lines equal... add 4" extension

WOW that is is very helpful. Thank you so much!! And I guess that being a C kite is more geared towards freestyle? I will not use this kite unless necessary because I´ll try to use my 12m to learn until I´m comfortable. I will take lessons obviously. But I just want to have an idea of what style this was designed for.

That is very helpful too. I guess that if it doesn´t have the 4" extensions in the package then I need to purchase them but I don´t know where. Is it four inches? Do I ask for 4 inch extensions or ask in centimeters? Is the key word to look online "extensions" or are there other possible words? I´m not sure if I´ll be able to purchase those where I live.

Also, the seller said it was never inflated. My mother will send me pictures of the kite without inflating it. How can I tell from the pictures if it is actually new? Any tips?

Thank you. I will actually learn to kite in Florianopolis, Brazil. I still have to find an instructor. When I come back to Argentina I go with a friend of mine who is also starting and his instructor around to ask and there are lots of kiters around too.
