Surfboard Size Poll

Postby adamj2281 » Sun Feb 18, 2018 3:18 am

Just wondering what most people use as their primary surfboard size/volume.

I'm 6'0", 175 lbs, and I ride a pretty small 5'3" Cabrinha Spade. I like a smaller board when it comes to kiting. Harder to get upwind, but fun to slash around.

165 lbs and I ride a 4-10 softtop and absolutely love it.
It's replaced my:
- Cab Secret Weapon 5-2
- OR Jester 5-1
- Shinnster 5-4

Only other board I still ride is my 4-4 finless skim for LW or shallow water.

totally depends on the board. im 5'9 150 lbs, right now im riding the 5'8 tona pulse and it feels perfect.

ive ridden that spade and it's a sick board too, i'd pick the 5'3 for myself.

sometimes i miss my 6'2 al merrick abm+ that had a bit more rocker when its over head high or so

i used to ride a 5'9 regular surfboard, i dont remember what it was, but it didn't go upwind at all. so it's not just the length that matters, have to consider the width, rocker, and where all the volume is placed too...

6’ x 170 lbs rider

5’4 slingshot t-rex (needs power. Good top end/grip, rockered from nose to tail, Lively pop)

6’10 G&L (shortboard type outline only bigger and no rocker, excellent light wind performance)

9’ Grain Root (classic longboard shape, hollow wood, cedar/glass construction, if the kite is flying this board will go)
(Grain surfboards are handmade in Maine by three passionate souls -nothing Kite specific but they produce a range of shapes. Anybody interested in a beautiful wood surfboard without the weight should check them out)

I have way more surfboards than I should have :-) but I use two most of the time

Small/medium waves - 5’9 x 19, flattish rocker, squash tail
Larger waves - 6’2 x 19.5, nice rocker, rounded pin tail

I am 220 pounds and use 2 kites 9m and 7m

Hmmm, lengths are pointless IMO, when you don't see the board outline :-?

Would recommend to show a picture of your boards here, apart from your weight and board lengths/widths :thumb:

I had my F One 6”2 Signature for a good few years just replaced it with a Slingshot Converter mainly for travelling having the surfing/ foiling option the converter is great in the smaller mushier stuff and for playing around but still prefer my 6”2 for bigger cleaner days!

77 kg / 170 lbs.

Locally, ride big waves, as well as sloppy small waves, from 4-5 m2 kites up to big kites 8-9 m2, but never bigger.

Board widths 47 cm / 18.5 inch all of them.

For really big waves and/or speed, and general use, this 6'0 with a flatter tailrockerline so fast (speed) and control

For the skaty slashy feel, this widetail and nose, thick fish 5'10

And for travel use, or "bring one board only today", this older 6'0 with a flat tail and quite thin rails it is a mix of both boards above, in terms of characteristics - but of course not as full grown in the respective categories as the two first ones

They are REALLY different, above boards, a few mm difference here and there changes everything.

A brand new one feb 2018, havent ridden it yet so time will tell how it rides, a 5'10

I always get rid of all waveboards I dont use a lot, since 2006, so above 3 first ones are my current quiver - and will have to see how the new 5'10 rides, if it will take a place instead :naughty:

Always a quest for the perfect quiver, and it changes over time :D
Havent found any love for the short square boards, yet...
