Hey,

I'd say you have 2 options really.

Either a school close by to where you live that you can get to easily.

Or what I wish I'd done, pick a decent looking location / school abroad and take a holiday.

Some of the places I toyed with were Tarifa, Dhakla etc. In the end I went to North Wales and it was freezing lol!

I'm into my second year, broke my ankle last year being a knob so that's put me back, but I reckon if I'd bitten the bullet and taken a weeks worth of lessons I would have been where I'm at now within 6 months (and probably not broken myself)

It’s not an easy period of time for good winds.

Egypt is ok, but wind is ok, not great.
Could be a week without wind, could be every day.

Dakhla could be good, don’t know it personally and don’t know about the wind.

I think lower Caribbean has good winds at that time, like Aruba it Venezuela. Los Roques is amazing!

Have a look at this forum: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewforum.php?f=83

Here on top are two topics with windy months and spots.

And we have a huge database with spots too...you can search for what you want:

Let us know where you went to and how it went!

Enjoy!!

Hi. Looks you are from Oslo. April and May is when kiting starts in Scandinavia. Cold is not an issue- you get a wetsuit from school and will be surprised how warm it can be.

Of course you can take a vacation on warm place, but always crowded. My friend went to learn to Cape Verde in February- felt too intimidated by all newbies in the water, said it was dangerous. Everywhere I go for kiting vacation- I compare to Sweden- empty beaches of west coast- just love it, impossible to beat :)

Learning at home advantage is that you get your own pace, take a pause when you need. Come back few days later. Biggest plus- you will get to know kiting community at your spots, make friends. I heard many kite around Moss.

Learning to kitesurf is so much more enjoyable in shallow water, I would highly recommend choosing a place that offers uncrowded shallows.

From Oslo your best bet would be Sicily http://www.prokitealbyrondina.com/ in April-May.

If you have the money and time, go to a warm place.
Don’t learn in cold water with maybe wind maybe not.
Your level after e.g.: 1 week Egypt = 1 month Germany
