Cheapest Android wear water proof watch? Woo 3

Postby cwood » Mon Apr 02, 2018 6:02 pm

So Woo 3 will send jump data to your wrist on the fly. (pardon the pun). Supports apple watch or Android wear. I have no interest in apple watch and it won't work with my Garmin Fenix so am looking for the cheapest way to get an android wear display onto my person. Any ideas?

Too expensive. A cheapo could be mounted in some sort of waterproof enclosure just as a display. Needs to be Android wear 2.0.... No GPS etc should keep price down if they exist.

Ticwatch Express. It's only rated to IP67, so you'll need to put in a waterproof case. It's Android Wear 2.0 compatible and has all of the sensors including a GPS. Only $160.

My Huawei watch 2 has held up so far to twin tip and foiling usage. No massive crashes with it on though and probably only 15 or so sessions (or about the same time it took my Xensr to die). They seem to come up on special offer every now and again. I paid only a small premium over a ticwatch but got IP68 and a bunch of other stuff in exchange. Might be worth a look?

Shame you need Wear OS (AW2). My Sony SW3 was faultless (except the strap) despite some pretty good crashes but that was only Android wear 1.5 (or so).

Do you use your HW2 on the salt water? Is it still working? I have one, but I take it in a bag (it records my gps tracks and other things). I know it is ip68, but I always had some fear of the salt water...

I have been using my HW2 in salt water. If you'd asked about a month ago I would have said it was working fine. I suspect it was a poor decision to go surfing recently that contributed to it (when I kite the watch is under my wetsuit which massively reduces the pressure of the water on the seals - in this case I wasn't wearing a wetsuit so my paddling would have really tested the seals) although it didn't stop working until a day or so afterwards so might have been coincidental (thats what I'm telling myself anyway :-))

Unlike with my Xensr, there was no evidence of corrosion on the external pins and no water leaking out after it died. I'm not concerned by the salt water corrosion personally, its the strength of the seals that you need to be careful of - I think the HW2 is something like IP68 2m which isn't super resistant to ingress of water.
