Try to see this in a bigger perspective instead of your own belly button.

Most of you replying, have extremely individual opinions and experiences, meaning you like or dislike some of the methods

Fine to express that.

BUT, these self landing methods shown in the video, maybe with small differences in some details yes, are the way people self land all over the world with really high success - no matter if you like them or not, personally.

Just a fact that these ways ARE the ones we use, so good to show these IMO :thumb:

The video is very keen on saying how risky some of them are, which is excellent.

Upper wind range of line walk is same as anchored (35 knots) and not just 20 knots as shown in video stats

You better learn it/practice it....in case you can't go back to your anchor/ or the beach where you end up is deserted of any objects to attached your chicken loop to

Now that you went to College let's see if you can answers 2 questions about the anchored scenes

First off... at 3:28 the lady hooks up her kite to cement block and the kite lifts / bounces off the ground 2-3 times
Can you figure out why that is ? and it's not due to the wind

Secondly... right after... the guy is attaching his leash to a large branch
Can you tell what he is doing wrong with the kite ?

Will check later answers ....wind picked up...going kitesurfing now

whats the answer pullstrings I give up. I mean my first guess would be that when this kite rests with the edge on the ground the center of gravity is transferred more to the rear of the kite behind the center of pull, this lifts up the kite but when it's in the air the center of gravity moves forward and thus the kite tends to head back down, but that's just a pure guess.

The left steering line is being pulled more than the right line due to the difference in distance from their attachment points to the anchor. The left line attachment point is like 15ft off the ground.

The guy using a twig as an anchor point let go of the bar while its still flying then powers it back up while still holding onto the leash ?

Here's what I would probably do:
Lady - Kite needs to be depowered (not too much, just enough to keep it stable on the ground)
Guy - He's sheeting in and pulling one side of the bar. Slightly depower kite (it still looked a bit hot when he finally let go)
Put kite wing tip on the beach, let go of bar, fit leash, connect bar to leash, go get kite.
Always keep an eye on your kite and don't get the wrong side of that log.

Correct...he should not be flying his kite while he attaches his leash :thumb:
You can see his kite is very stable once he hooks up the CL to the leash
The throw on his bar is very long which slacks the back lines a lot making the kite "fold" on itself...therefore the kite cannot bounce or catch wind to lift off

Now with the lady her bar throw is quite shorter and her kite's back lines are not slack enough when she hooks up the CL to cement block hook
You can see that the kite's shape is "spread" out and not "folded" like it should be....the kite is not spilling wind / luffing as it should
Besides the bar throw...trimmer may not be pulled 100%
Also her back lines may be attached too short on her wingtips pigtails & all the way out on the wingtips attachment ( very fast turning mode will slack the back lines less )

When you walk up the front lines technique the back lines become completely slack so the kite remains in stable position until you get to it

The kite behaves perfectly normal while the lady is standing. The very instant she lowers the bar towards the ground the kite lifts. Replay the video, see this happen. This is because the left back line is now being pulled due to the difference between left and right line and the distance from each attachment point to cement block. Good grief, I'll ask the questions next time. :)

erm, can't think of any atm
