If I were them, I would start teasers to announce the change so the 2 names can be side by side for a few months and the new name will carry equity.

Na, Toby. Having North kites will brand you as an Old School Old Boy.
One of those guys that does huge airs and board offs, and twirling tricks with the board....and those Jesus walks.
Oh wait......

I think the name was important when people were switching from windsurfing to kiteboarding. Neil Pryde folks went Cabrinha, Nort, well stayed North, Gaastra was not in Canada so they went to Ozone, Sailworks went Slingshot (same kind of philosophy). But now if you learn on a duotone and see a bunch of them and are being told this is high quality, innovative, performant brand, you don’t care what name it had three years ago...
I agree. Just as the north sails name was more important to the windsurfing side 30 years ago. North windsurfing has always been more closely aligned wuth north sails, including using the same logo.
North kiteboarding benefitted more from north windsurfing as you point out.
My guess is NKB is a bigger business than north windsurfing now.
Both are recognized brands in their own right and the value of a north sails license to the windsurf and especially kitesurf market is very limited.

Yeah....the radio silence from North is a little unsettling.

Yeah they probably had to re-name the brand....too much Airstyle affiliation makes you seem like a kook brand....all value lost.
I think this duotone name is non-sense, you couldn't pick a stupider more meaningless name....but this is also the same marketing genius that wrote "THUPER FANTASTHTIC" on their kites. So wouldn't be the first really dumb decision they've made.
I thought "Wipika" was up for grabs a while back.......That would be a sweet acquisition....would put an ironic truth to all the "invented by" in their marketing BS.

They are getting more advertising value right now by keeping quiet - at zero cost.

... I've solved their dilemma,,,, call the brand Zorth,,,, that way they can keep the printed name on the side of the gear but say, 'we're so cool we print our Z's side ways"!
