I heard a large sporting conglomerate tried to buy both Cabrinha and North, consolidating both of the brands. The deal fell through because of the issue with the license for the North name as discussed. Current status is unknown, but I heard that there are still negotiations goin on to maintain the North brand name.

Who actually cares which sport is more difficult? Kitesurfing is better!😁
Yep..they both were about the same to get real good at it

Windsurfer from 76 to 98...owned a North sail at one point

Got my ass kicked at the Gorge Killer Loop in 93

Pritchard brothers were doing double forwards and stuff

Said once I would never stop windsurfing

New wind & water sport appeared..tried it once...got hooked...next day i put all my pole gear for sale and ordered my 5.0 Wipika

Never looked back

You missed out on all the freestyle jibe variations of those days like lay down carve jibes..lay down duck jibes..monkey jibes..pirouette jibes..pirouette duck jibes..ghost jibes...jump jibes..double duck jibes..etc

Those were the days..on sinker 8ft board and a 5.2 sail

You would have been all over those jibes

I remember an awful
Lot of windsurfers that couldn’t gybe to save their lives. Twint tip is the only reason you think the same level is any better at kiteboarding....... but it’s not. Kiting just has a way to turn around without falling that’s accessible to beginners. Once past that, progression is similar. You can go higher with a kite earlier, but it’s lamer.

A decent full carve gybe is about as prevalent here now with kites as it was in the days of windsurfing. A decent tack on small surfboard rarer with a kite.

Windsurfers plateaued for lack of time on the water, not difficulty.

You can equate the better kiters around here with the better windsurfers of yesteryear. About the same percentage are truly advanced and to about the same level.

I put this on par with a big mega loop.

I think anyone who acquires nkb after board and more will never get close to the quality we are used to with board and more. rebel, dice, neo, evo and all other projects are exclusive.
Now we have to look forward to new name DUOTONE and se whats gonna happen

i start singing the sarah mclachlan song angel when i see those guys struggling...

"for pennies a day you can teach a windsurfer how to kite..."
Yup, and all those windsurfers know they can learn to kite anytime when they get too old to windsurf. No worries about how many years to get to a level where you look good and feel good with your skill kiteboarding. 'Bout a month should do at a good location before you can jump higher on a kiteboard than the pro windsurfers took 15 years to do.

So if you would consider a review of your own "emotional intelligence" with specific focus on "empathy" in regards to you statement, what would the windsurfers be singing be singing in their head when they are thinking of you as a kiter.

I would guess something along the line of Beaky Buzzard -

Not a worshiper, but I do give credit where credit is due. I steer potential windsurfers away from windsurfing and towards kiteboarding if they have the ability to get to a good wind venue. If they are stuck on my home lake, then I am 50/50 on just saying both are about equal for having fun.

Honestly, I think I am more of a kiteboarding "worshiper".

While I don't mind a little off topic every now and then I don't think the kiteboarding vs windsurfing discussion is necessary in this thread. :-?
Nor does it have anything to do with the threads topic. Just my two cents. Thanks.
