Even more speculative would be that the change of name will be indeed to Duotone and that it will be on 1 July as posted in the first post of this thread and here http://forums.boards.co.uk/showthread.p ... ost1069984 .

Not sure what to think of this since this would be in the middle of the season...!?

Would that be good or bad? And for whom?

Can and will North find another kite builder who can step up the production quickly enough to keep the brand alive throughout the season?

Will the old producer/new brand name "Duotone" be able to change the production so quickly? Are they maybe already producing/printing Duotones? And hence North stock is low with dealers (as claimed in the link above)?

I am excited to see what will happen. After all, rumours may create their own reality. So, who knows.

It's crazy putting a brand value this big on the table!

I think the new duotone product coming out time After time like the previous production by north. Every month a new kite! Type by type. From august to december all the gear line. :cool2:

In my opinion obviously!

As far as I know north the kites are built by an independent company.

http://www.gslanka.lk/aboutus.html

Kites are generally built in lots. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the 2018 stock isn't already built.

At some point the name and graphics change.
Ptobabaly 2019 rebel. And I would guess that final production spec is coming up qiick.

Other kites follow as usual.

I don't see what is the big deal. Companies change names all the time.

I personally hope not duotone but in the end I don't really care what the name is.

It will be interesting to see if the savings in royalties is passed back to the customer.

I really wonder how afin people are with brand names.
Do people buy the name or the product?
If everything would be the same would they really jump the boat because of that?

I will tell you this... I have just learned a lot about the industry... some of which I am not sure I like. I always envisioned that the kite company's were started by and run by a couple of guys with an idea... Never did I think that investment companies would be behind all this.
Naive I know but I don't think I will ever look at a North kite the same way.

Kitesurfing's like any products that require capital expenditure and deliver economies of scale, you need big numbers and investors see a profit from financing that. (hah idiots).

I believe most of the North stuff is/was made at Aqua Dynamics.

It's just an umbrella change, it means nothing for North, or us?

Duotone or north for me is the same.
I choose quality, innovation and design.
The name is part of the design.
would you buy a pair of comfortable shoes with a horrible design?

The change might be a good thing. Its a lose/lose situation. The true NKB will lose custmers to other brands for sure. Imho only way to keep the customers and attract new ones will be keeping the good design and lowering prices. At least for a while.
