Sandpaper edges of TT?

Postby BernieTomic1 » Sun Apr 15, 2018 10:39 pm

I am thinking about sandpapering the edges of my Trax HRD to better be able to grab it, as there are some smaller cracks and uneven spots, and I don't want to cut myself.

Now I am a little in doubt if it is ok to do this, and if I might worsen the boards attributes? The rails are important for the performance, right? Is it ok to sandpaper the edges all over?

I have certainly done this before more than once when there are rough bits or little edges from stone damage - much prefer it to be smooth, I think as long as there are no deep scratches or deep damage it should be fine. Deeper scratches I have filled with epoxy.

I sandpaper all my boards. By riding on the sand! Yeah, it does something. But I can't really notice it that much. Rocker and shape are lot more important than the edge. I say go for it round away. You probably won't notice the difference or if you do notice it, won't hurt the performance too much if at all. I've also squared a rounded edge (put on a fiberglass rail and then sand it down square) didn't notice much there either. My opinion is comfort is more important than rounded or squared rail. I think rail shape is more important for surfboards because their rail is so big but not as important for twintips. On a surfboard, a rounded rail can get stuck in the water and it's hard to release the edge.
