fascinated to see what happens with the fragmentation of freestyle kiteboarding next

maybe we will see the return of the twintip for all free styles, easy option

Without new young instagrammers/vloggers it will be hard for anything to change for the new younger generation, just the way influence/ inspiration works today.

Im pretty sure winning at the foil gold
Cup is pretty difficult too, but by and large it’s not that hard to simply get around a race course.

There are incredibly talented kiters doing very different and difficult things at the top of their respective fields. Just saying that as a distinct field, wake still requires more power, and on average has more bodily consequence than even what Airton is doing.
Yeah that's really the point: the top level in any sport requires a high degree of skill & commitment. If you look at a mature sport - like skiing - nobody would claim that downhill racing, or slalom, requires less skill than the halfpipe or slopestyle & nobody would claim that the halfpipe represents the pinnacle of the sport. Lots of young kids are drawn to terrain parks & half-pipes, especially in areas that don't have big hills. The best of them become extremely skilled & will likely experience "bodily consequences" along the way. But the vast majority of skiers would pick the joys of of free-riding a big mountain - steeps, bumps, powder etc, rather than being stuck in a halfpipe, however challenging that can be. Wakestyle is a bit like the halfpipe of kiteboarding IMO.

No but it's definitely declining. Wakestyle is analogous to snowboarding, for some reason it's not as "cool" anymore and skiing is making a huge comeback

sick!

yeah snowboarding/skiing was 50/50 and now 10/90

there are simply very few young progressive riders left in freestyle kiteboarding

promoting obstacle riding is kind of a fail because of the 2 huge problems. nearly everywhere is tidal, cost and the fact that few seem to want to help with the dissmantle!

anyway i hope new riders get to still enjoy wakestyle without the dumb attitudes of some riders of the past.

Well wakestyle in general may still be (reasonably) cool to watch, especially in a carefully produced & edited video clip, but sliders & kickers? Laboriously constructing contrived obstacles & sticking them where they don't belong in attempt to emulate skateboarding? Daft. In fact, watching the sliders & kickers in the snowboarding (& skiing) events in the recent olympics just reinforced how daft it is. Doesn't look interesting, doesn't look in any way cool. Respect to the skateboarding kids who push their sport (in an urban environment) to extreme levels of skill ... but why would a sport that encompasses the Great Outdoors bother pretending to be like skateboarding? Makes no sense.

Haters be hatin.

Lining up an obstacle to session with a kite is pretty unique. Wind makes it its own thing altogether.

I don't hit much off anything in the water, but on snow it's always worth building a kicker or finding something to slide.

Just adds so much fun to otherwise flat terrain. it's a free ride sport! In what universe does a free ride action sport get worse with purpose built features you can install in beautiful and unique spots, session the hell out of the place and then leave it how you found it. Makes a cable or skate park look like a hamster cage.

You guys are so funny, there is so much lame shit in kiteboarding to complain about but you get all Statler & Waldorf at this!

Someone pullstring's string. We need a meme up in here.
