BWD, ah...no! That method works fine on a wide open beach, but some launches are damn tight. You really think you should be telling guys who have kited for many years where they need to stand to launch a kite? You gotta be F-ing kidding me...

Newb or Pro: Going kiteboarding on water without wearing any floatation whatsoever.
Refer to recent near death thread to hear him tell you what saved his life.

In Como lake a floatation device is mandatory and I always wear one. That said, I don't like this thing in the waves.

Newbie asking someone for help to launch and tensioning the lines despite the kite being way too deep in the window.
Gets even better when the assistant is also a newbie!

It amazes me in Cape Town how many kiters, who are obviously experienced or they would not be kiting there, start to tension lines while launching when it is obvious they are too far upwind and the poor launcher who is a girlfriend or wife gets bowled over by the kite. Obviously if the launcher is a fellow kiter they would not allow this to happen, but when your launcher is a novice or non-kiter, make a point of being behind the kite as you tension lines, then walk upwind till the kite wants to fly and give the thumbs up.

Saw a guy with too big a kite for the wind hot launch and Superman on his chest into the sand and get dragged.

Another guy on the beach launched and instead of turning the kite out to the water went back over the top toward inland and drove it all the way down into the beach almost on top of an instructor who luckily ended up between the harness lines rather than getting hit by the leading edge of the kite.

Kite crash and relaunch on the water but lines were now inverted. Disconnected leash and chicken loop holding centerlines with the kite still flying at 12, was able to uncross the lines by threading the bar through the V and reconnecting the chicken loop and leash.

Months later same thing happened... Disconnected leash and chicken loop and at that moment had a brain freeze and released the center lines... Surreal to watch the kite launch up up up and away far downwind before landing on the water half a mile away... Me.

“Hey, don’t mean to tell you what to do but that kite is way to big for these conditions”
Beginner “I’m 240 lbs, i’ll be fine. It won’t be enough to lift me!”
10 seconds later he’s being dragged across the beach and luckily just between two cars as the kite hit another car to finally stop it. Came up bruised and spitting sand but luckily no major trauma. Yeah, you’ll be fine, why listen to someone who might know more or maybe even let go of the bar at some point?

I saw a girl wrap her lines without the figure 8...
I am doing this from beginning for af least 15 years, and never had a problem. In fact in those years i tried doing the figure 8 for a couple of times and it was a mess... : )
Am I the only one?

Actually there are people riding with more bulky things than impact vests?

If one day they forgot to put it on they are going to be world champions no doubt!
