Outside line connection affecting water re-launch?

Postby alden » Thu Jul 12, 2018 5:59 pm

Many kites (like Ozone V9) have multiple attachment choices for the outside flying lines. The claim is that it affects turning speed and/or bar pressure. But I'm wondering if it also could effect the ease of water re-launch? I'm thinking that the attachment position closest to the wing tip might have better re-launch in light wind due to putting more torque or force on the wingtip that you want to lift during re-launch. Does anyone have this knowledge or experience? What are your thoughts?

No - its just Experience or Lack of correct wind range that affects relaunch..

Heres an excellent vid of how to improve your low wind relaunch, have a play with it - one day you will need it :cool2:

From the relatively few light wind relaunches I've had to do you don't really need much torque, it's more just "steering" the kite on the surface to the edge of the window, if there's enough wind it will go, if there isn't it just sits in the water like a retarded duck.

And now in deep water while slowly drifting downwind..

I had that V2 for a couple of years. No way it would climb to the zenith like that in the claimed 5 knots while being wet...

Peert - many kites will relaunch inlight winds with above method, including swimming at it Old School C kite style.. Sometimes riding in squally weather - the wind can stop after it passes and change direction.

If your riding in 5 knots you deserve a special award, otherwise it can be a life saving skill to keep your kite in the air and be seen, no riding necessary. Light Wind is the key word here..
