Gear advice for 6’2” 210lb guy

Postby JB26 » Fri Jul 13, 2018 2:06 pm

Hi I currently ride a Naish Cult 10.5 and 15 from 2010. Looking to get possibly at 10 and 14 switchblade. The majority of the wind Around me is 10 to 18. Any advice which two kites I should? Would the 14 be just as good as the 15 given the fact that it’s new technology?

Lol, anything will be better than Cults... Though with the majority of winds being 10-18 I'd look for something with a lighter bar feel than SB-s. What brands and models are available to you? Your riding style?

A lot of guys ride 13's and 14's up to about 20 knots if they're you're size. You can probably get away with a 12 or 11, but at 210 that'd require good kite and edge control. A 10 doesn't have any place for you in the wind range you listed, I'd say like a 13 and a 17 would be your kites for those ranges.

Also, why Switchblades? I mean, I guess they're okay, but they're really heavy...like...really heavy.

Thanks for the info. Lot of people seem to like them. So if I got a 14. What would you say to also get for when ya over 20kts? What kite would you recommend?

Bandit, Rally, XR4/5, Lithium

Basically whatever you can get your hands on other than SB and you're comfortable with the price..

They don't like them, just lack the imaginations to go try other stuff outside of what the local Cab's sales rep shoved up their throat...

All this hate for SBs....Their great kites with lots of power and a good fit for big folks IMO. Yes they have a little more bar pressure than some other kites, but have gotten much better and not an issue for a 6'2, 210lbs , guy. And they have great range.

I'm 6'0, 225 lbs and I ride an 8m, 11m and 14m. Covers me from 12 to 35 kts. I have three different size boards that cover me
in that range. I can easily hold down the 14m in 20 kts with a small board. If I need anything bigger than a 14
that means it beer drinking time for me. Light wind kiting is too much work if you're over 200 lbs.

Nobody sais they are bad kites, but if you're looking to be mostly riding a 12-14m kite - why go for a pull-ups bar when there are much better (read - easier on your arms) options out there?
