GoPro Head strap

Postby Beardytello » Thu Sep 13, 2018 3:24 pm

Does anyone have any experience with the headstrap for a Go Pro?

I obviously HAVE to capture all my mediocre attempts at tricks to try and impress my social media "friends" and I've done the chest mount.

I fear a head strap is going to pop off when I wipe out (despite my oversized head)

Comes off every time, just tie a shoe lace round the strap and your wetsuit zip. Not great for you own stuff obvs being 1st person but great for filming others.

Ha ha, I thought it might.

Good idea with the shoelace!

I'm looking at a line mount for attempting to look good (yeah right) but I really like the POV stuff for me as well so I can relive my own glory (or more often epic failures)

I used it too...and used a line attached to the strap and around my neck.
Not the best setup, but worked.

Attaching it to the zipper should be the better bet...if you have a wetsuit, which I didn't.

If you use a helmet, you can attach it with a short leash to the helmet.

I have a helmet but I don't want to attach a leash to it  (Sorry that was terrible)

I've always worn a headstrap with my old GoPro Hero 3. It looks dorky but I never liked the view from a chest mount and can't imagine riding around with a GoPro mounted to a device that I chomp on (mouth mounts). Here's one of my videos with all footage taken while wearing a headstrap: https://youtu.be/Ll8mtOSLEKI

To ensure I don't lose the GoPro, I put a key lanyard around the headstrap securely with a knot. I wear the lanyard around my neck and in 5 years of kiting it's never come off my neck. It has fallen off my head and dangled down my chest until I was able to put it back on which you get the hang of pretty quickly. Headstraps for GoPro is definitely my preferred mount

'Leash"...not a kite leash, just a thin rope...rest of a kite line or so

I definitely prefer the view from a headmount, the chest mount shows a fairly static view which gets a bit boring.

Tried only once, i feel like head strap is good recipe for gopro smashing you in the face, also video isn't very stable.
Helmet mount gives much better results.

as Jerome said - helmet mount or just bite on orange floaty.
I you wipe out it will be floating around and if you land your trick you can always switch view and get a happy mugshot..
Another benefit of bite mount is that you can always check the lens and lick off any drops before your trick...
