In the aftermath of the storm, does anyone know what the access is like into waves or rodanthe?

There are no problems with access to Hatteras Island. Florence went south of the island. The only OBX roadway with continuing damage is Hwy 12 on Ocracoke. Hwy 12 from Whalebone Junction to Hatteras village is clear of sand and water and without damage.

Thanks ...many places in rodanthe like s turns and others just flood and it is still salt water....to splash in your under carriage. Maybe the right wind for me mid week in Salvo. Thanks again.

Yes. Last Sunday, just after access to HI was restored for those who evacuated, I drove from Oregon Inlet to Avon. I was surprised at how little sand and water were on Hwy 12. The usual spots (S-turns, Ocean View in Avon) were clear and almost dry. There were a few puddles here and there in Pea Island, but not enough to slow traffic or wet the underside of a vehicle. Now, barring another storm or breach of the dunes, that water is also gone. This week, I've driven to Hatteras Village several times, and that stretch of Hwy 12 is also clear except for a little sand in the bike lanes along the highway in Buxton. It's surprising (1) how little damage HI received from the storm and (2) how quickly DOT cleared the roads. We were lucky.

Are you planning to ride ocean or sound? For sound, you won't need a wetsuit. For ocean, it'll probably be okay, maybe a bit warm. When the sun is out (which has been most of the time since the storm), it's pleasantly warm. Humidity has been low the past few days, so it's really nice.

Did you happen to notice the new bridge construction down near the houses on Pappy Lane?

Damn that new bridge. The state is suffering billions of damages from Florence but there’s $145M “fun project” money for jug handle bridge somehow.

An Island where prices are quite high but business import Russian workers every high season and don’t pay locals. That’s to “walking the talk” of MAGA
