Kitesurfing steering lines shorter than power lines

Postby Crissssssss » Sun Sep 23, 2018 9:46 pm

Hello guys. Today I was checking my bar to see if everything was ok but the steering lines were a lot shorter than the power lines like 4 inches. The steering lines are already in the las knot. How will this affect the kite? Is there something I could do? Thanks for the help 👍🏻👍🏻

Get the centre lines shortened Or lengthen the back...

As soon as it gets windy - your forked with no depower option left.

Your trim line is about to break too - replace at the same time...

I tried stretching the back lines and I think it’s better now. Thank you so much for the quick answer.
Yeah I know I have to start looking for a new bar

My brain has always told me that its more likely that the rear lines stretch less, but the dynema gurus claim that for the same reason the rears shrink more! Whatever, bars will pretty much always end up prone to stall after a couple years without tuning. Stretch the rears and your pretty much good. You can also shorten the rears at the bar attachment under the floats. Thats what those knots are for.

As to the trim line. It does look past its best before date. A bar refurb is not calculus. They are not disposable

Whatever you choose, don't sell it like that to anyone inexperienced.

Nice job. What did you do to fix it ? Just attached the steering lines to a pole and pull hard or something different? Also, how did that happen in the first place? I think I have created line issues from leaving bars in my car (in the heat), but nothing that dramatic. It always interesting to hear the source of stretched lines.

I just attached them to a tree and pulled hard. I don’t know how it happened I believe that when I got it was like that but I was a total beginner

It's hard to believe a hard pull would eliminate a 4 inch line discrepancy. Based on the first photo (showing the 4 inch difference), I would have recommended adding some pigtails to the steering lines to lengthen them. :?:

Stretch works and is pretty simple.

I would bet your lines were in tune (all equal) when the bar was new.
