Been to Punta Chame once for just a few days. Nice spot with good winds in the morning and evening. It's a long sand spit.

If you are told not to kite in front of the town - don't do it. I ran out of wind there and had to fight of a pack of dirt dogs. Kinda scary. Also be sure to shuffle your feet while walking in the water. There are lots of Stingrays. I saw some one who was stabbed - not pretty.

Aside from these issues it's a nice spot.

It was nice when I was there. The wind turned on everyday at 2pm. There were lots of stingrays I never got hit by one thankfully. All so there were a lot of jellyfish and I did hit by one of them. It's a low key spot not a party place. The one restaurant/bar is Nitro City that is where I stayed. I enjoyed it but the hotel is old and not updated so not really worth the price they charge for it. Good kiting spot plus other things to do because of Nitro City. All so there are some all inclusive resorts with casinos and bars not to far from there closer to Costa Rica.

I was in Punta Chame for two months in Dec 2016 and Jan 2017. It's a good spot, but be careful where you stay if you don't have a car. Some of the spots below Nitro City and Machete Kites become difficult to kite depending on the tide cycles. There were days when there was NO beach for us to launch from in front of the guesthouse where I stayed. I think the best time to be there is Dec to March. You can kite in the Pacific side, or drive and get to the Caribbean side, but that's a haul.

There were a couple cute restaurants in the town, Casa Amarilla has great french pastry if it's still there. But not a lot of options, and there were NO places to get money except Casa Amarilla which would exchange money if you needed it.

If you're going to take lessons, I would recommend Machete Kites. It's a cool spot with a good vibe. The owner is super nice -- maybe you've seen his skateboarding bulldog videos?

I hope that's helpful. Let me know if you have any more specific questions!

When were you heading there?
I’ll be there on Dec 16 and 17 and I may have a ride to share from Panama City.

Little update here from 2020 on the post.

The best months to visit as mentioned on top are Jan-April. The season starts in November and goes until May.
During Jan-Mar you can expect 18-22 knots daily.

The beach is super wide and there is plenty of space spreading from the point upwind to the first lagoon.
The flat water lagoon is best for learning to kite and doing freestyle tricks. The rest of the spot is mostly choppy water. At +20 knots some small ordered waves form, as well.

The highlights of the spot are the sand bars that come out in the middle of the ocean at super low tide.
Just a blast to kite there, enjoy butter flat water and jump over sand.

Nightlife is still rather quiet in Punta Chame. There's always some ambience at each of the schools.
Coco´s Bar is the local bar in town and fun to groove a reggaeton with some locals.
For dinner I recommend Solé Beach Club, Pizzeria Appero, the Casa Amarilla.

For accommodation, the above mentioned Nitro City closed and is now an all inclusive restaurant.
Again each of the schools has their accommodation options so you can stay right by the ocean.
At Panama Kite Center we have studios with A/C and kitchen or glamping tents.

For stuff to do that's not related to kiting, you can always rent a surf board and go down to Chame banks, about 10min in car. Great surf beach.
Hikers will like to walk up Cerro Chame to get the best sunset view of Punta Chame (about 1.5h). Chame Canyons are fun to jump off cliffs and spend the day in wet sweet water. Punta Chame tours will help you organize a trip.

If you have any questions, write me a message, we know the spot in and out.

Happy winds!
