I know quite a few topics have been on this forum about this issue before. Therefore I would like narrow the topic down to 2 specific questions to the Set-up that can be seen on following pictures:

1) I'm using a "Sling" as it is being used for Rock Climbing.
Question 1) Has
anyone tried that before?

2) For the Safety Leash I'm using the Naish Plastic Connector instead of a
Shackle. Why?

I do not want the same Release Mechanism for the Quick Release and the Safety Leash (Shackle) because you never know what happens when you get into a dangerous situation and you might panic. And I definitely do not want to pull the wrong device in that situation because they are similar.

Why having more weight than necessary?

Costs!

Question 2) Could be the Plastic Connector to weak?

Any other concerns, comments or suggestions?

Thanks
Stefan

1:
well, the KITEPROSHOP bar uses something like that.
i know a guy who has something similar - good idea.

my brother uses a bomb-proof special rope that can take loads of a few thousand kilos
but i think it's just the way how the system is fitted to your spreader bar ...
i use 4mm rope and it lasted all season. . .

2:
well -- how strong does it have to be?
if you ask a salesman to give you a maximum-load-value
for such a tiny plastic-thingie, he'll laugh at you. it's certified with about 15kg i think .. (which does NOT mean that it'll break when 16kg are pulling).

i once thought that a 125kg line would be too weak, but if i release my kite and there's still enough force to brak a 125kg line, i wouldn't want my kite to pull me around anyway. . .
