I am impressed at the dedication of the KPWT to safety. They have created a line about 100 meters off the beach with buoys, and any rider kiting or landing jumps inside the line is fined $200. They have also made a quick release system mandatory for all competitors, so in case of emergency they can let go of the kite. I showed my new safety system with leash for the kite to the race director and we will have a meeting with the KWA (Kite World Association) representatives to talk about making safety leashes mandatory as well.
