i am currently flying a 7.1 free air. I learnt kiting with this one and got 2 bigger skoops this summer.
i m about to replace my 7.1, and even though i know that low aspect kites are better for that size, i m having second thoughts.

suggestions?

low aspect, try an Hydro 7m and you will never get back to anything else (applies to aero, toro and co)

depends on the wind.
IMO a small toro's not good for gusty conditions.
here in germany, you're much more comfortable with a kite with big depower and flat profile, like the skoop or airblast.

even the high ar kitelines have really low ar's in these sizes. problems like stalling or relaunch are no problem in conditions where you rig less than 10 meter kites.
but you gotta handle this kite, you mustnt make mistakes with such a fast kite. . .

If I kited in the Greek Islands, I would want a 7 Hydro for the Gusty and Mean Meltemi for when it's fired up on Ouzo.

I tend to disagree. I 've found the Toro 8m a good kite for the gusty conditions, and great for the surf!

then take an old 6.3 airblast.

It seems that illy is trying to get away from the AB 6.3 (and rightfully so). I've had Toro 8 and F-One Mach1 9.1. Stick with mid AR small kites, like the Toro. I guess the Hydro must be similar, although never tried it.

the smaller the kite the faster it will be.
If it is a big kite, you want it fast, but if you have a smaller kite, you don't want it fast, since it is already very fast.
So the smaller kite doesn't need a high AR to be faster.
A Toro, Aero, Hydro.. will do a good job, unless you want it to be really fast!

I prefer a kite not too fast, since if I want to do tricks with an X2 8.0 and I pull a bit too much on one side, i get warp sped until my rips hit the water. Don't like that too much...

hi guys - thanks for taking the time to talk about sth we ' ve all discussed many times in the past.

of course i agree with the basic rule that low ar kites on these winds and sizes are already fast.

i m just between a 7 akooba and a 6.5 skoop (no wipikas for me now..) and thinking that i ve spend time on flying low ar, i might handle ok a higher aspect ratio kite.

(after all this time that i had the low ar and everyone look at me like the stupid one flying a safer kite....)

last question: what about jumps using a skoop -ab etc (when everything goes ok toby)?
i mean, we know that the faster the kite, if you pull the right way, you go HIGH...
