Hi guys, I posted this to the kitesurf-Yahoo!Group.
Tips for first-time Flysurfer and/or Psycho users:
I will not comment on hangtime and height potential of this kite, because the conditions were unreal!
-------------------------------------------
Yesterday was my first try with a Psycho 12.5 in
super-shitty 8-28 knots conditions on a small lake.
Armin Harich from Flysurfer was there, so he told
me to what I should take attention (I'm flying X2s and Flysurfer Warriors) and made some comments while he saw me flying the kite:
1.) If you are a tube kiter and this is your first
time on a Flysurfer: be really carefull and fly
it in the lower windrange limit first to get used
to the kite.
It can generate explosive power and lift!
2.) Launching: if the wind is really strong don't
do a downwind launch. Launch more from the side
of the wind window (reason explosive power and lift)
3.) Always keep a bit bar pressure (the weight of your
arms on the bar).
4.) If the kite tends to overfly (or you think it could
overfly): pull on the bar a bit so that it drifts back.
5.) On land in the upper windrange: do NOT suddenly
pull the bar very much or you will get airborne!
6.) For tube kiters: If you are overpowered and you can't
edge enough to cruise upwind -> Pull the adjuster to depower
and you'll fly upwind.
7.) If you are used to the Flysurfer system and you used
to throw the bar away when you are in trouble to land the
kite. Be carefull! The tube that fixes the chicken loop
to the spreader hook (like the Wipika system) prevents this.
The little tube is removable btw if you don't like it.
8.) To Re-/launch the kite: pull the center line once and it
should go up.
9.) The kite flies best when you can lock the kite in the wind
window. It is not built for flying figure eights to generate
power in really underpowered conditions.
For all tube kiters that use the Psycho for the first time:
be carefull! It is a truelly a power machine! There is explosive lift in that kite!
Now, have fun with that kite in hopefully better conditions than I had.
