Eric: those jumps are insane! That's like being 20 feet up over concrete.

You mention that your buddy Alex "almost always sticks the landings". That's like saying "my parachute almost always opens"!

another point not mentioned is that you require a lot less wind to get speed on skates (also skiis depending on the surface). This means you are jumping using energy generated from aparent wind, which as long as you keep your speed up means your jumps will be much smoother/softer.
Q: what were the wind speeds like in these pictures. It looks pretty calm.

Did you use a Psycho for the ice jumps on skates in the pictures, if so what size.?

Actually Bubba, I'm not sure that what you're saying is correct. Apparent wind will get you going really fast on the ice in not much wind, but to boost high you still need a lot of power to boost your body weight. Extra power can be generated by your high speed on the ice acting against the kite turning back in the power window, but in my experience this leads to a pretty violent jerk on take-off. In addition, the hangtime is less & the landing harder because you tend to be using a smaller kite than you would on the water & this floats you less.

Bottom line: Alex must be carrying a lot of power to be boosting that high!
