Ok, at the moment I'm flying 3 kites on 30m lines no prob. I'll probably do a frontline leash conversion soon and the 2 sets of flying lines are 27 + 23m. So I was thinking of using 23+7m leaders on one bar and 27m without leaders on the other.
My question is this: would it be better to use the 27m lines on the bigger slower kite (16m fuel) to speed it up, loosing a bit of low end, or on the smaller faster kites (12m fuel + 9.3 rhino) so they hold more wind?
Thanks

Use the short lines for the biggest kite, if it is too slow for jumping.

If you are underpowered - you can use the long lines, as you get a longer powerstroke, and more low end this way.

I would recommend you to use 27 meter (total, right ?) for all your kites - it is the best length for most kiters.
Best compromise between low end and jump pop !

Forget about using short lines to hold your kite in more wind - it is pure rubbish, and has no effect.
The power is exactly the same, regardless of line length - but the way the kite behaves changes dramatically !

Thanks Peter, that's what I thought too, 27m on the 16m fuel should make it turn a bit faster while I don't want to the smaller ones any faster.

try 27 on the small
and I advice you to try 23 on the 16.
On my 2002 quiver I flew all the kites except the 6 on 23 meters.
so did the international teamriders.

Yeah, i agree with anon. I snapped a line once and made them into a set of 22m lines. I use these on my mach1 18.1. It is soooo much more responsive and you dont loose a lot, even in very marginal conditions as you can sine the kite more. Hang time is probably less but only very marginally.

Jo,
are yu comfortable without leaders? Nice to be able to grab rope if you have to rather than line.
shorter lines on the big kite makes sense, not having to rely on sineing to power up as much as a smaller kite. Kinda like just setting a big sail out there and sheeting in.

Big slow kites seem to like the shorterlines...

I've used my 20m AERO once on shorter lines (20m) and it works great in over 13 knots with a wakeboard. Under that though I tend to miss that extra bit of power stroke...

I suggest 23m+ 4m leaders to make a true 27m set. Use the 27m lines + 3m leaders to make a 30m set.

I use a 30m set with 16" bar on small kites and a 18" bar with 27m line set on big kites. A 3m length change doesn't change upwind performance, or increase high wind range. It does change kite handling though, for the better.
