San Juan is great for kitesurfing but it is on a diferent island to CAbarette. Its a 2 hour flight from DR to SJ. Puerto rico is a great kitesurfing destination.

Not "Dominica" but The "Dominican Republic".(formerly called Hispaniola with Haiti by the Spanish and then Santo Domingo or St Domingue when it was French) Dominica is another island south of Guadeloupe. It is way smaller and the only place in The Caribbean where Indians from the Carib tribe still live. The official language is English whereas in The Dominican Republic Spanish is spoken.

Gasper Hernandez is about 1 hour east of Cabarete. We have done downwinders from there from a beach called La Cana. You can kitesurf there too, but there is no reef so it's pure ocean/wave/chop riding.
A fun thing to do is start at La Cana, and ride the whitewater slalom style to La Boca (the river). Take a refreshment, eat, or whatever at La Boca, then head down to Cabarete or Kite Beach:-) Only do this if you are an experienced rider, that can handle waves.
