Has anybody been to a place called Mui Ne/Vietnam. I heard about a spot called Full Moon Surf Center and I was wondering if that's a good place to learn kiting.

If someone knows another not too crowed place + school anywhere in the world, pleeeease let me know.

Thanks

Hi Schum,

I just got back from Mui Ne after vacation 6 weeks Kiteboarding there.
The wind is very good, but if you want to learn there is only one shool at Sailing club hotel.
The Full Moon hotel have very good rental gear for Windsurfing ( 2003 Starboard and Yes sail) and Kiteboarding is Air rush 2003.
I Don't know Pascal the owner of Full Moon have any instructor yet.
The reason I am wondering, because when I was there from Nov 28- Jan 4/2003 I was the only Instructor allow to teach by Pascal.
Mui Ne is 14 km long sandy beach with no Coral, Sharks, funny Jelly fish.
The water temp is around 70F-80F little current is always on shore.
Wind is side on shore come from North East Oct-May and South East May-Sep.
Please check this Web site http://www.windsurf-vietnam.com for wind speed and gallery.

A friend of mine recently moved his whole family to Vietnam to start a kite centre and school. He raves about the place, and hasn'd done a lot of work yet because he kites every day!

Apparently there are big sand dunes behind Mui-Ne which makes the land heat up and creates heaps of wind. I think this is one of the windiest places in Asia. he has all new gear and a great set-up.

Check his website and contact Campbell for info at:

Thanks Dave for the plug.
Kitesurfing in Mui Ne is some of the best I have seen in the world for consistant winds and safe location. I have a full range of new 2 and 4 line Slingshot kites, plus most of the board range. I am IKO qualified and so is the school. If you need any more information go to http://www.airwaveskitesurfing.com
Cheers

Hi Campbell,

Are March or April good months to come to your place? What about the Monsoon?

For six months of the year Nov to Apr the wind comes from the North East and is the strongest. The other six months it comes from the south and is still windy. The uper end is not as strong 30 knotes plus with the north east wind. But at least 16 to 20 days a month between 14 and 25 knotes. I was here last May and kited every day for 3 weeks with kites from 8 to 16 meter Slingshot. I call this a all year round kiting spot.
Maybe not as good for windsurfing in the summer but who cares.
Cheers
Campbell
