I don't mean to sound like a dick or anything...honestly, but before we take the time to re-cover this topic....
Have you tried using the SEARCH feature of this forum? The search works best if you select the "Search for ALL of the terms" box instead of the default "Search for ANY of the terms" box. Try that, and if you still dont have your answer, let us know.

Hey A-69,
You said kite face down in the water, I assume this means down for the count, no relaunch possible?
If so, your asking how to keep the kite safe as it appoches the lee shore.
For this circumtance you have to get your hands on the kite,
One way to do this is tie your depower through a footstrap, leave the bar on the board and climb up the lines to the kite,
in higher wind when relaunch is possible but unwanted tie the safety to the board and climb up that line. Be careful in strong wind you should not try this it's-too-risky.
this is a meathod for saving a disabled kite from a lee shore.
hope this is helpful, it's a bitch watching your kite head into trouble.
repost if you need to,
