Just heard of a story that a lady who was pushing her baby carriage packed a board, which was laying at a beach, at the bottom of the carriage and walked away with.

Did anyone else experienced that their stuff was stolen?
If yes, what can we do?

Toby,

I just started something on the FKA list in Florida. It is a lost, found and stolen gear list. Individuals can post their listings into this file for folks to checkout frequently. Also, in the case of unique, expensive items, like kites and boards putting the word out with local gear shops as early as possible helps. We have had recoveries of stolen gear when the robbers took the gear to the shops just to get a feel for value and interest. Finally, writing your name and phone number on your kites and boards may help as well.

Toby,

The Florida site is pretty much directed at Florida. I would be will to setup and maintain (until I get avalanched with emails), a similar list on the kitesurf@yahoogroups.com site for International use though. What do you folks think?

The email format would be:

Posting Date:
Gear Lost Stolen Found (delete all but what applies)

General description of gear (for found gear hold back some unique identifying details):

Date of incident:

Location where gear was lost, stolen or found at: (launch, city, country):

Contact name:
Email address:
Phone #:

As an after thought, the subject line should be pretty descriptive so that readers will not have to open all the accounts. Individual listings would upload there own files to the list, so I wouldn't have to deal with emails. Something like, Launch (using the local name if possible), Gear (FOUND, LOST OR STOLEN, list only what applies, date). For example:

Hobie Beach, Gear FOUND, Feb. 13, 2002

that's nice, if you could maintain a list like this. Good idea.
Hopefully we can avoid many embarassed and sad kiters with this list!

I just put together the international lost, stolen and found database at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kitesurf/ ... en%20Gear/

So give it a try and we'll see if folks find this to be useful.

Rick, how do you upload to the group file?
Or can people just send you an e-mail, like mentioned before?

Toby,

Uploading the file once it is prepared is easy. The folks must be registerd for that list however, which is also easy and free. Once at the files link that I posted, go to the upper left hand corner where is says "add file" and hit that. A box will pop up in which you hit "browse". You locate your file that you want to post and double click on it and hit upload file and you are done. It seems complicated but after going through it a few times, it really isn't.

PLEASE DO NOT hit "Send a message to the group announcing this file." or this might get dumped from the site for causing too many postings.
