March is stacking up to be an active month for hot kitesurfing competitions in the Florida, USA. More events are in the works for other parts of the state throughout the year so stay tuned.

First, the BIG EVENT, the Kiteboard Master's. This is to be a pro competion with a very large cash purse in the heart of trendy jumping Sobe. Some of the best kitesurfers in the world have been invited to come down and shred their best. I have uploaded available information to date at the following link:

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/FKSA/lst

under the "Masters" folder.

There are three folders inside "Masters" including "General Information", "Rules" and "Registration". You can enlarge the display by hitting "full size" in the upper right hand corner of the screen when the image file is displayed. Some of these documents may still change a bit so please check back soon.

The Masters is largely a pro event and is to be sanctioned by the FKA, but...
SIX LUCKY AMATEUR RIDERS and two alternates that win in the Islamorada competition the week before will become eligible to compete in the Masters!

The Masters has the largest cash purse of any kitesurfing competition that I am familar with in the WORLD to date! Toss in a hundred thousand or so fitness enthusiasts hanging around Sobe, with major parties every night after some intense shredding and you begin to get the idea. We are talking major intensity and world class exposure!
So please check back for more updates on this exciting, first of a kind event right here in SE Florida!

As to the Islamorada event, Tom Bosely and Brad Lange of Islamorada are organizing the event. The FKA also is planning on sanctioning this event as well. Brad and Tom are to be putting all their info on a website very soon. In the meantime some information is given at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FKSA/message/433

Things are still developing so look for news at this location soon!

Finally there is the Treasure Coast Kitesurfing Competition and Festival coming in early March to Ft. Pierce. This one day event should be a blast and set the tone for many more FKA one day shredfests throughout the state in the coming year.

Stay tuned and good winds to all!!!

Hello Royce,

The organizers are to put up a website very soon. Updates will be given on the FKA website at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fksa/
I can also put an update on the Islamorada competition information page on this site once I have the link.

Toby,

I suspect that they will mainly be South Florida riders with some visitors from out of town. Some of the South Florida riders, such as Neal Hutchinson (Key West to Cuba fame) and Rob Hassle (Jo Jo kites), have been competing in various events in the Eastern USA and Cabarete in the last year or so. Some are very good but as I have yet to see a group of Pro riders go at it, I am not really sure how good they really are. Sorry to be vague but if you are up for Islamorada, I would say go for it! You couldn't ask for a much nicer location to shred and party than the Florida Keys. Of course Sobe will probably take the cake for partying and then some during the Kiteboarding Masters Comp.

unfortunately I can't come, but I would love to.
Earliest will be March 26th.
I have to wait for a special board for testing.
But keep us informed about both events.

Hey, it was only 16 years ago. I met you there Toby, the good old days. Strangely, Florida is too cool for most kite comp's anymore, because ... I have no idea why. It is real shame too as if you have one, they will come.
