a good tool is to set in your profile the option to get a pop up window which informs you if you have a new private message or not.

Default it is set to send an e-mail to you, aslo to send you an e-mail if you want to be notified if someone replied to your posting.

Go through your profile again and check if all settings are as you want them to be.
