Small board

Postby Guest » Fri Feb 14, 2003 4:25 pm

Hi,

I'm only weighing in at 60 kilos, and I use a 9,4m2(projected) blacktip kite. I already have a 180 cm board, but It gets hard to edge for me, when the wind is getting to about 13 knots or higher (4 Beaufort). I want to ride in winds up to 21 knots or more (5/6 beaufort). I think that I can edge in that conditions with a smaller and narrower board. Now Do I like to know which of the following boards is the best?(riding/durability):

-Slingshot Zeppelin/Misty 137cm long, 35,5 cm width
-Underground Wavetray 137cm long, 36 cm width (or 132cm long/ ??? width)
-Carved "popper" (I'm told this is the best, but's it is a custom board after all, and therefore it's expensive :( and I haven't seen any good deals of them yet :( )

I'm therefore also looking for people who are selling used (good condition) Carved "popper". Or someone who's selling wavetray 137 cm (or smaller), also in good condition. I'm also interested in (cheap) new 2002 wavetray's (137 cm or smaller) or new (cheaper than normal) carved "popper"'s.

See ya,

Wilco

Hi Wilco,

Undergroud Wavetrays are very popular on the forum (do a search).
You can't go wrong by getting on of their boards (2002/2003).

The only way you will find out what the best board is for you is to go and test the boards - I have gone for 1 board - 130 x 40 - gives you nice plaining in the lighter winds and when the winds go upwards of 35 knots a nice small board to edge hard.

I agree, test a lot and find out yourself. we all are different and no one can tell you which is the best board for you, only for ourselves.

But if you have the change to test boards, try to test the X-Shooter 133 as well. You won't have a problem edging!

see how it edges :o

as a fellow 60 kilos rider, dont go lower than 130 as it needs loads a power, dont go longer than 140 for high winds as you are light and need a smaller board than heavier peeps. you are lookin good with the 137 x 37 - 39 cm, IMHO.

Here's a few things to have in mind if you decide to go for an Underground :

Next size down from the WT137 is the WT130 (130x35). At your weight I would also consider this size, especially if you are keeping the bigger board.

I'm 68kg and use my 137 in all conditions 10-30knots. If I was 60kg I would definitely go for the 130 but then again I have 3 kites, you have only one

If you 're keeping the big board go with the 130, if not then maybe the 137 will be more practical.

In anycase, at your weight I think it would be difficult to ride the BT9.4 in over 20knots, regardless of the board you buy. Maybe it's time for a smaller kite as well

ps. we may have a used 2002 WT137 for sale so give me a buzz if you're interested.

My 2 cents -- the ug138 (same as 137) needs loads of good, consistant power, otherwise you're sinking in the lulls, which is plenty frustrating. I'm a few sessions into testing my 138 and have concluded that it won't come out of the bag until at least 18 knots..I weight 65 k's and fly s & g arcs.

Small boards small people

Postby Guest » Wed Mar 26, 2003 6:25 pm

Hi Wilco,

If you want an edgy small board which offers stability from its width the rrd twister 150 from last year is very favourable for small people. And a bit stonger than some overseas custom builds. Check boost for last years deals on them 01273 721100.
