What type and style of wetsuit?

Postby Guest » Tue Feb 25, 2003 3:53 pm

What make or type of wetsuit do any of you recommend for this sport, While reading another thread I saw that lycra style suits aren't good if you're using a waist harness because they slip up the body.

If anyone has any good comments they'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

They are also much colder - never go with a suit that is not totally "sharkskin" on the outside, if you want to be warm.
Evaporation of water makes these suits way too cold.

But if warmth is not a problem, I have no idea.
From surfriding I know, that some suits slide even on the wax, while others are like glued to the board, when paddling out.
Eventhough they are all sharkskin !

So you have to listen to some who has used a particulary suit I think.

And it sounds reasonable that a waist harness will slide on lycra yes.

I ride in a 4/3 O'neill Zenzip full suit. Its not snakeskin all the way around but its taped and glued on the seams so almost no water gets in the suit. Any that does gets trapped there. This isn't one to pee in either, it doesn't go away. This suit keeps me completely comfey here in Texas during our winters and I even got to use it surfing in L.A. in January 2001. A really excellent wet suit.

Go for a dry suit, it's expensive, but you can wear it all year trough, by changing the layers of cloths you wear underneath it.

The Ocean Rodeo Pyro drysuit is the way to go if you live in a cold area. Layer underneath can take you from winter to early summer in one suit with the comfort of being dry.

Where do you kite? Alaska?
Drysuit is definitely a bit warmer than a fat steamer. It's also bulkier, more hassle and 2-3 times the cost. Three reasons to never wear one, when the 5/3 does the job.
