back line re-ride leash

I want to make a back-lie re-ride leash system on my existing bar, but I don't know what's the best way to do it, this is the bar I want to put it on any suggestions?

And this is a sketch of the sytem I mention:

So bassically, I only have to find a way to add a ring to the end of the bar, have someone adjusted his bar like this, and how? I think the hole in the bar for the leader isn't big enough to let it slide over the knot that connects the leader to the back line. :-? Anyone an idea?

The hole in the bar is only okay if you either use leaders a full kitespan long, or no leaders at all (feed the flying line through, attach a ring for the leash clip, & add long pigtails at the kite, to compensate for the adjustment/trim lines).

What's wrong with simply tying a ring to the bar end? Just make sure that if you use leaders shorter than a kitespan they must be THIN & the ring must be THICK, so the leader knot will slide easily over the side of the ring (even though the ring had a BIG hole in the middle, the side of a thin ring will still catch on a fat knot).

Wilco if you use a backline leash you can use 3 leaders not 4 which means 1 line less and makes it easier to shorten the fronts and remember a snap shackle on the leash.

About the bar, when I was using a backline leash I had 3 long leaders which is best imo, the I shortened the leaders (to shorten my lines) and used a small (single) knot to loop the flying line on that pulled though the ring on the end of the bar but even if you test this loads i think this is asking for trouble, better no knots that have to pull through anything.
I've definately gone off the idea of stopper balls since I saw how close to the bar the lines twist.

If you have really short leader maybe you could just loop a ring to the end of the leader for the flying line to pull through.

Remember to test it thoroughly before trusting it.

Very good points. Agreed 100%

back line reride

that looks like a cabrinha bar have a look at this years bars as they do what you are suggesting except that the ring is spliced to the end of the short leader then the flying line is passed through the ring and through a stopper ball then larks headed to the leash line which goes to your harness bar. When you let go the bar will slide up the flying line on the ring on the end of the leader to the other stopper ball up the line at 1x kite span seems to work very well.........hope this helps

chuffer,

I have the cabrinha powerlock bar. When they sent it to me I only received one stopper ball. When I called the dealer to ask for rigging advice he told me not to worry about the second ball. There was also some discussion about the disadvantage of knotting the kite line (and weakening it) around the ball.

During my first outings with my new bar and kite (CO2 7) I was forced to test the system under real life conditions (gusting 30 to 40!)

When I let go of the bar it slid way up toward the kite and the lines got tangled terribly   . Now I am wondering if I should have that other stopper ball up on the kite line to prevent this.

Have you have any experiences like that? Does the second ball prevent the tangling phenomena?

Anyone else care to comment?

thanks
roberto

I never got around to installing an upper stopper until I'd already read some reports that it makes the lines tangle about half the time. I'd already found out ("under real life conditions", like you!) that they tangle about half the time with NO upper stopper. Based on equal performance with or without any given part, I always choose to eliminate that part (no upper stopper).

So I've to emulate something like this on my cabrinha bar. What were you guy's talking about the advantages and disadvantages of the use of stopper ball's Can you report on that some more?

Can you point out what you mean with spliced ring, how is it setup exactly, can someone post a pic of a 2003 cabrinha powerlock bar, and preferably from the ring on the leader (the leash slide trough system)

thnx

I have found from experience with my slingshot bars, that not having the stopper seems to make it much more likely that it will be tangled when I try to relaunch. In fact, if I don't have the stopper, then I plan on not being able to relaunch my kite.

I just got the cabrinha bar last night and I used the stopper ball on my flying lines and just used a metal ring in place of the stopper at the end of the leaders.

Anyone have their cabrinha bar successfully rigged in some sort of spinning leash setup?

Also, how did you guys shorten (if you did at all) the chickenloop line? I think the way it is setup right now, I have too much depower (at least the bar is too far from me), but I don't want to tie a knot or try to cut it shorter. Any ideas?
