All kiteboarders need to know a good, reliable solo landing technique. To not bother could easily commit you to a nasty accident one of these days. Kites can simply be too powerful to hang on to, TOO LONG. This has been proven in the most serious way, many times already.

Two possible approaches appear in:

A scenario that may require solo landing is described in:

It would be a very good idea, if you are not currently comfortable at INSTANTLY solo landing your kite, even while still offshore, you need to be and soon. Practice in light winds, in a large open area of shallow water ideally. All your gear needs to be tested and carefully maintained, particularlly your kite leash. Recently twisting concerns have been raised over certain types of leashes. For this and other reasons careful testing in light controlled conditions is srongly recommended. Explore various techniques that work reliably on land or water, pick one and make it second nature. Historically, there have been serious concerns about riders trying to release their kite and not being able to. A startling reality appears to be that in some cases, they didn't appear to be compelled to try. Depowering/solo landing needs to be second nature and automatic, when hazards may be present but BEFORE they strike. Seconds can count in this. Sounds melodramatic? Not when you analyze some of the avoidable accidents.

Better safe than sorry,,
My favorite way is to fly the kite down behind some trees and bushes
a wind shadow,,,plop done,,,,if you have steady wind and an open beach and a cool head,,,you can land it like you have a catcher,,,touch a tip down as it tips forward 45 degrees grab the high side line and pull,,
slick,,but,,,not fool proof,,,its got a be right wind and beach,,,not
a rickI approved meadthod,, but cool,,
becareful
