Wook 12 pics and first impressions

Postby JBonvalot » Wed Mar 19, 2003 2:30 pm

First day out in the water with Wook12 – it was only 20 minutes with gusty wind 10 to 20 knots – and only I can say is that this kite is very comfortable and have a soft feeling (I swap X2 for Wook). Also it seemed a little less faster than X2, witch is great characteristic for a intermediate rider.

I think this kind of kite will be the right choice for me.

The only complain I have is the balls valves – they are simply useless because they don’t work and takes more time to deflate the ribs. The same problem with X2.

I would like to post a few pics but I don´t know how!?

Good winds,
Joao

The ball valve's do work, you just need to know how to use them. When you are finished pumping, turn the valve upside down. you will find the valve stays shut as you pull the pump out.

The valves in the outer struts works perfectly - sometimes they are not 100% tight the very first time, because the material is a bit stiff...

But after one or two pump/deflates - they work perfect, and you dont need to turn the strut upside down or anything.

Hint: Take the valve "cork" out of the velcro - then you can close it much better without letting any air out.
You can still lock the cork with the velcro, without having it fixed in the velcro.

The other valves (bigger diameter) might work if you turn them upside down - but why do that, as you don't need valves in any strut but the outer thin one ?

IMO contra valves should be banned from all "inner" struts !

The balls are okay though, because you can deflate without any effort, when the kite lies with the valves up.

But why have them in the first place, as they are of no use for 99.9% of all kiters ?
I think it might be because it is a part of that type of valve - so maybe it is not intended - but as it really does not harm - it is okay.

I had the luky of experience the new hook12 with nice wind. First I have to say theese new takoon wings can take a lot of wind but maybe you should put some more knots in the wind range mentioned for each wing. No doubt the new 12m wook 2003 is a great kite. Although, you should not expect the same behaviour when comparing with a x2. It´s a different philosophy of riding. Either you like smooth jumps and easy riding or else you choose more radical flyes with skoop2. In my opinion when you´re choosing between those kind of wings it´s more a question of corresponding with your style. Anyway 2003 there´s a great market expecting for us... buyers

the wooks arrived in my local shop today, and they look good, construction wise the materials and everything are top notch, but still leaving a good lightweight kite.

the porscher material is bomber silicon proofed, from their paraglider cloth range, and has uv degradation that is off the map compared to most leis.

i've not flown it yet, but they look superb, not as technical a construction as the cabrinha co2, but i'd expect them to be a better feling kite.

    Hi João,

To put a picture in a message, you have to insert the picture into any site in the internet (you might store it in your internet provider's site) and then insert a link into the message with html tags like this &ltimg src=&quothttp://url_to_your_image&quot&gt.

To put this image here (taken at Guincho a fews days ago):
    <img src="http://kite.no.sapo.pt/Dscf0013.jpg">

    What i did was:
    1 Went to http://geocities.yahoo.com/
    2 Registered
3 Returned to geocities homepage and selected the Easy Upload
4 Selected and uploaded the files i wanted
5 Returned to geocities homepage and selected the File Manager
6 Selected the View option for the file i wanted
7 Copied the URL at the browser address for that image
8 Came here and inserted the &ltimg src=&quothttp://kite.no.sapo.pt/Dscf0013.jpg&quot&gt in the message!

Note: i think geocities "doesn't like" us to use the images that we put on their servers in other sites. I changed to http://www.tripod.lycos.com/
The proceeding is the same with the following change: to get the image URL right-click on the image, choose "Properties" and copy the URL that appears there.
Tripods doesn't like it either... Trying a Portuguese free web site http://www.sapo.pt ...

    I hope this helps!

João: Guincho will be blowing! Lets go there?
