I bought a new harnass last year june and have used it a lot. A
Wipika seat harnass. Now I allready see wear at de bands that hold
the spreader bar.

On one side it's allready quit a cut-out. On the side where I open
the band to get out of my harnass it's less than on the other side of the spreader bar.

So wil a harnass last shorter when using it for kitesurfing than using it for windsurfing? In the time I windsurfed, the harnass lasted for years. At least 4 or more years.

Is there any way to repair/replace the bands?
Is there any way to avoid the wear? DaKine "Pivot bar" ?
Is someone using a harnass for over a year that does not show any(or little) wear at the bands that hold the spreaderbar?

I ask this question, because a friend had the bad situation that the band actually ripped apart. Resulting the bar hitting him in the face and causing an injury! I don't want that to happen if I can avoid/prevent it!

In another forum I was advised to just replace the "bands"

it is no problem to replace the baands.
It did it too since it is very dangerous to ride with an almost ripped up band.
Your friend is th best example. Avoid it by changing the band more often. Shouldn't be more then 10-15 Euros. The harness still be fine, but the band always suffers under the pressure of the kite.

If I would not have asked the question here and in other forums, I would have bought a new harnass.

Go to a shoerepairstore. They can stitch very well. Did the same with my old windsurf seat harness (after tying the leash to the wrong part of the seat harness.....)

that is a good idea, too.
But you also can go to sail repair shops, they do it within 10 min. Whatever is closer to oyu. But I don't know if the shoe repair has the band you need?

Tie a granny knot right at the wear spot in both sides of the webbing if you have enough space. Then center the bar and you will be able to use it for ages longer without the repair. And those annoying webbing flaps won't get in the way. Also for a great harness try the Prolimit Felix Peviel model. Don't know how long it will last but it sure is a great feeling harness.
