What lake are you going to be riding on in Dallas?

Actually south of Dallas, Lake Richland Chambers. Little public access - mainly fisherman - but lots of open water. I've got a decent spot right in front of my property but for learning - we're going to grab a boat and head for an open water spot with miles free of obstructions (and trees). Just got my Airush 3.0 trainer - may take a stab at it with my Samba this weekend.

Cancun_hound,
Come on down to Houston for a weekend and take a lesson at the Texas City Levee.
I am not affiliated with either of our shops but both give lessons.
Try Adrenalinesportsoutfitters.com (check spelling)
or Windsurfingsports.com
Both are great shops for info.
Quite a few Kiters from Dallas make the trip.
It’s just an easy place to learn.
This group suggests the caution and training for good reason.
You will have more fun if you can skip all the reinventing that most of us do.
Most people who are attracted to this sport have the same attitude that you do (including me in the beginning) but just going for it is not always best.
Just my opinion
Otherwise good winds and have fun out there :thumb:
Joel

Thanks, time permitting I would definitely consider that Houston option.

Now you are riding a bull that can jump the fence and start stomping on the crowd. Most of us could care less about how many bones you break in your body learning to kite. We care more about a bloody nose you might give a spectator.

It sounds like your spot has no water users. GO CRAZY. You will learn alot by doing it yourself. If there are other folks around the LZ you will do no one a favor by roughnecking it.

I don't want to discourage you from learning but as you are asking about packages I'm assuming you have zero experince on the water. Take a lesson or two or, at least, get a samll foil to practice with on land before you hit the water.

Good Luck CH! If you can get down to SPI you will find the most freindly kiting area and lanches in the world. You could probably also score on a good deal on a used kite and board that might pay for the trip.
