Hi there,

I tested the Fone Mach1s 9.1 and 12.1 and I'm really enthusiastic about them. Last year I was flying an airblast 11.8 and 8.4 (sold them recently). Besides Fone, I tried other brands like Airush and North. But Fone is definitely my favourite.

Now I’m wondering what sizes Fone Mach1 to buy. Still have doubts if it’s possible to combine a Mach1 18.1 with a 12.1 in a set (gap to big?). Or that a combination of 15.1 and 12.1 is the best way to go.

A Mach1 18.1 is said to be one of the best light wind kites, but will I be able to hold it comfortably until I can fly the 12.1 without flying curves (sinus)? I read a post from Toby that a 15.1 Mach1 will start later than a North16. But I also heard the Mach1 15.1 will start sooner than a airblast 11.8. Because of the big size the range of the 18.1 is said to be quite narrow if compared with the 15.1.

I would like to read some opinions!

Thanks!

(BTW I'm 72 kg and ride a 175 tt Olry)

Hi there.

Good choice for the Mach1. I decided myself for this kite about 6 weeks ago, and so far I am totally d*e*l*i*g*h*t*e*d .....

Considering my weight (73kg), board (174TT), and winds in the region (typical range 5-30) I was hesitant between getting a 9+15 pair, or a 12+18 pair. I decided on the latter, 12+18, and that choice has been good to me this far!

Personal wind range for the 18: min 6, max 21 (yep! last sunday: avg wind in the 16 mph, gusts reported on iwindsurf.com at 21!!)
The 12 I have used less until now. Experienced min: 10. Max: probably 20-22 on that day, but have not had a chance to try in stronger winds yet. I would imagine the max at around 28-30 mph for me.
[edit] have experience max at 30mph this weekend........

Pro/Cons : check posts in this forum one/two months ago. In sum: clearly one of the winner this season, major pros are large wind ranges, excellent responsiveness (even when choked!), and speed. Only cons I have identified this far is poor (fair?) relauchability of the 18 in low winds (like most "big" kites, I was told).

Good luck in making a choice that will best fit you.

Fly high, fly safe, and enjoy!
j.

Thanks for your advice, but I know the site. Like with all other brands it's difficult to judge if there's a gap between kites or not. There should always be some overlap in windrange, because in gusts you want to stay on your board and don’t want to start flying. Usually people say you can’t skip a kite in a set with for example wipika airblast. I was wondering if the steps were not a bit smaller in Mach1 and that it’s possible to comfortably skip a kite.

I have been using the 9, 12 and 15.
Since each kite has so much range there is a lot of overlap between the 12 and the 15. I would recommend to get the 12 and the 18.
We do have all sizes in stock

I already have the 15.1 and it's great. It definitely has more light wind power than an airblast 11.8.
Can I skip the F One 12.1 and just get the 9.1 for my next smaller kite?

it could be possible to skip the 12.
But then you'll be very often sitting at the beach wishing you would have the 12.
I know it from myself. I have 7.5/11.5/15.5 ARX and many times I wanted a 9.5 and 13.5 because they would have been perfect for these days. Then I had to decide: overpowered or underpowered? I hated that choice. So if you can, get a 12 as well and you won't regret it. You should look at your winds as well. Do you have many stronger wind days or more middle winds. Tan a 12 would be better.

Cheers
Toby

Intersting. I had the same quiver of ARX, 7.5, 11.5, 15.5 and I often wished for a 9.5. (however I never wanted a 13.5 since this gap was well covered).
I guess that I'll just have to buy more kites

you can have a bigger gap between the bigger kites. not very big difference between 21sqm and 19sqm. But big difference between 7.5 and 9.5
