which large bow to get!?

I already have x-bow 9 and 12, which I am pretty happy with. Now I am looking to got a bow for the less windy days...any suggestions?

In my views a simple question (but I'm biased - I love the Contras): I would either go for the 17m or for the 14m. It will depend on your weight, board size and the lowest wind you are aiming to ride in. To give you a better advice it would help to know these details. The 14 is more fun to fly as it is faster. The 17 is big, but fast for it's size.

Have you thought of diffferent board options instead?

I have a 16xbow, but it has been in the shop for repair for the last 3 weeks or so so I have been forced to use the next available wich has been a 12 xbow.

On light days. as soon as the kite is capable of self launching. Usually around 10-12mph and with a big board... a plywood Glide Clone 150x47 I can get up and running and staying up wind without a lot of work at all. Now this is on inland lakes with smooth water. typically on the inland lakes this means dead onshore winds and it hasn't been an issue.

On the Big Lake (Lake Michigan) this is a different story and requires side shore wind and small breakers. if it is dead onshore there is now way I'm geting out without the 16.

regardless. I am amazed of what a 12bow and large baord can do

oh yeah. I'm about 165 lbs + the weight of a full 5/4/3 wetsuit (it's starting to get chilly up here in Wisconsin)

that being said, I couldn't imagine getting anything more than the 14 contra for my wieght. (if I ever had the money to spend that is)

I weigh around 150 punds and use a Jaime Pro size M. The wind range I sail in varies a lot...I need a kite to overlap the X-bow 12m2.

go the Cabrinha Contra- from what ive heard and seen, flys better that any other kite in light wind.

I´ve got a Contra bow for sale in 14m2. The wind here (Denmark) is almost always for riding with 9 or 12m2 so I don´t need the kite. Like brand new - only used a few times. 1100 Euros or 1400 USD.

I'm extremely happy with my combination x-bow 9 and 12 + contra 17.
I use my Contra 17 with a Nobile 666 Ext and can board as from 10 knots.

The idea of a bigger kite might not be the way to go. Look at a wider board. I have several friends in the 160 to 170 lb. range and they use 12s in what ever wind comes along from about 9 or 10 mph up to the high 20s. In light wind a surfboard or similar kiteboard might be just the thing to get you going. Having said that I have a 14m contra, a 17m contra and a 20 Waroo. All of those have good wind range and I have not found the top end on the contras yet. I have flown both in 25 to 28mph winds. The Waroo gets a bit jumpy above the 20mph mark but then its really only supposed to be used up to around the 15 mph range. If you are interested I am going to sell the 14 and the 17 contras. They are school kites with some wear and professionally done repairs. Both fly well and have may hours left in them. I would take $1000.00 for the 14 and $1500.00 for the 17, complete with bar/line sets for both.
