So I have a Nasih x2 16m that I have recently repaired to riding condition.
I have a North 5th element bar (my only bar).
If I want to convert the kite to 5th line (it has no leash attachment point), what can I do?
The local store has said for $40 or so, they can install a leach attachment point.
Is it worth the money? Any thing I can do from home?

$40 is probably a fair price for installing a 5th line attachment point.
Whether it is worth putting money into such an old kite is another question. Only you can decide.

How good are you with a sewing machine? All you need to do is get some thin webbing and sew it on securely to the LE. Make sure that tension on the attachment pulls in a way that doesn't load up the stitching too much and you should be fine.
I've added attachment points to my old C kites but since getting a bridled kite I've not used them once!
Good luck.

Take an old harness line - the type windsurfers use and we used have as the big loop on our bars. Feed it thru the gap behind the main center strut and the canopy. To make the 5th line nose line take a line and feed it through the webbing loop ends of the harness line and use a larks head to secure it.
Measure the nose line and put a series of knots roughly in line with the wing tip pig tails.
I did this on my X2 8. remember the X2 is a 4 line kite so the fith line is really there only as a safety system so there shoudn't be too much tension on it.
I have had no structural problems yet. That centre strut is pretty well secured so I think it will be fine.

I did what munteruk said on my Naish X2 16M and it works great. Just went out yesterday in fact. I bought some webbing and attached it to the leading edge with needle and thread.... it took a while though. I use it with my original Naish bar that I rigged to make the leash attach to the 5th line.

You can just use leader line wrapped around the center strut. I had this on my old X2 for years and had no signs of wear. I know of several other folks who did the same thing w/ no problems either.
