2007 Underground Board Question

Postby 5mmkiter » Thu May 24, 2007 2:40 am

I am looking for a new board but don't have much selection to demo locally. I had a 2006 Underground FLX 132 and found it to be quite bouncy and hard to control in chop. For everything else this was a great board. I ended up selling it because I ride in choppy conditions most of the time. But I broke my old board and now need another one. Does the 2007 handle chop any better. Did anyone else find the 2006 too bouncy in chop. Is it possible the 132 was too small for me and the 138 might be better for my 200lbs and more controllable in chop. Has anyone compared the 2007 FLX to other boards (Nobile, Jimmy Lewis, Naish, others)

I'm a similar weight to you and also owned the 132 flex 06.
I was also surprised how bouncy it felt in chop/small waves
Otherwise an excellent board.
It felt big for a 132 thought I might have been better going for a 128 ?
Going bigger will make the bouncy problem worse, not better.

All the new boards are going bigger, but I just think there following the trend set by the Nobile 666. Unless you've got the super flexi rail / tips
Like the nobile there not gonna ride well in chop ????

I think with that weight the new FLX138x41 is the best choice!
The bigger the board gets the more flex it has (relatively), the softer/smoother it rides.

Try to demo it!

Frank
PS: I don't think the 06 FLX132 is bouncy at all... and I have not heard this before. Maybe it really just is not the right size for you!?

I have an '05 152x42, '06 128x38, & '07 152x44.

The 152 is so much better in chop than my 128! Between the '05 & '07, I think the single concave rides a little bit better in the chop.

At 200lbs I would go for the 142x42 and the new construction is more durable so it should be very hard to break.

The new 132 is pretty much the same as the 06. If you want a smoother ride try the crazyfly proline 132. I like the UG more but its not for everyone. For the sizes of the UG I had an 06 and 07 128 but ended up selling the 07 128 and picking up the 132. I didn't really notice any reduction in performance for edging or anything else but there def was an improvement in how far upwind I could point.
