Cabarete Report

Postby Toby » Thu Apr 10, 2003 6:07 pm

Hi Guys,

here some infos and images from my trip to Cabarete:

If you have wind, which normally there is a lot and many days, but I was very unlucky, Cabarete is a nice spot.
Many kiters from all around the world. Outside at the reef you have nice waves with flat water to get speed for the ramps.
Warm air and water!

Image

First I stayed at the Playa del Oro Hotel directly at kitebeach.
Conny and Rick are very nice hosts. Directly next to the beach bar of the Playa del Oro is Kitexcite, a certified school and rental place.
The most people know Marina from Kitexcite, since she is in this forum and answering all questions regarding Cabarete.

Beautiful view over the pool, beach bar and kitebeach of the Playa del Oro Hotel. The hotel has about 25 room, and 2 with this beautiful view

Playa del Oro has a garden in which you can clean and dry your kites.
Rick is working on a storage right there for kites and boards so you don't need o bring it to your room all the time.

here the area for kiting with a flatwater area and outside is a reef with very flat water and beautiful waves. At lowtide you have sometimes watch if the reef is not too shallow. The wind comes normally from the right side and is sideshore to side-on.

next to the Playa del Oro Hotel is the Kitebeach Hotel.
Here some images

The I stayed 3 nights at the Caracol Appartment Hotel.
It has a beautiful garden, is close to Cabarete downtown.
The beach is less crowded with kiters and shortly it will have abig kitesurf center with testings and school. A so called Kiteclub.
The beach is 100m away from the Caracol

Here is a nice BBQ place where kiters from around the world meet and grill together.

Crazy traffic. Normally you ride with the motorbikes from hotel to Cabarete and back. at the backseat without helmet...
I think very dangerous and I never felt happy with it...
Specially if guys drive about 140 km/h or 80 mph and don't havethe control over it.
See what happens:

With the team from kite-boarding.de we went to the blue moon restaurant up in the mountains. Unique restaurant, since you have to sit on a pillow and no plate and you eat with the fingers. Some kind of indian food.

Hello Toby,

Thanks for the great photo layout on Cabarete, the layout and places to stay. I hope you are able to stay longer next time and have honking sideshore winds everyday starting at 11 am!

t-shirt available?

Postby Guest » Fri Apr 11, 2003 2:35 pm

hi toby,

besides these nice pics showing us cabarete I´ve seen you wearing a Kiteforum-Rider Tshirt. This idea of identifiying Forum participants by a special shirt was already discussed a little time before and I wondered what happened to that idea. Did i miss something?
Do you have such T shirts in your pipeline? If yes, it might be a good idea to bring some to the PKRA worldcup at Lake Neusiedl which will start in 2 weeks.... Hmmm?
bye mic

Hi Mic,

the idea was about sticker, which are now available.
there are two different designs:

Image

Image

I will bring stickers with me to Lake Neusiedl.

Just watch out for the guy wearing these kind of T-Shirts, that's me!
Or for an X-Shooter board with many kiteforum stickers on it, like these:

Image

Maybe I will announce a meeting point on Saturday, then we can meet and you can get some stickers.
