Are Board offs old school

Postby Kiteboarddog » Wed Apr 21, 2004 5:36 pm

Can this sport even have an old school?
The mags act like board offs are pardon the expression "gay"
Dead man??
these tricks are attainable for the average rider and I think the average non kiteboarding spectator is impressed by those kinds of moves over low level technical tricks.
I agree that wakestyle is hard and takes balls but only kiters and wakeboarders understand how hard those tricks are.

Opinions?????

Going big looks awesome to the non kiter!

Wakestyle stuff happens so quick I guess it might be difficult for joe public to understand.

Last year Vari wanted to do things the mear-mortals cant do.

look to me that loads of people are doing handlepasses 20 ft up now.

a double handpass looks so untidy . Kiteloops look impress ive how ever you do them

its all fashion. boards off will be back at some point.

Jv...

i'm not knocking wake style moves, i'm sure they are real hard to nail.

but i think most of them just look ugly, especially the way they are pulled by the majority of kiters who don't have pure wake roots.

big air, long distances and hangtime are what impress the punters round our way, which is my excuse for having progressed little further... :o

board offs are too stylish for some people who can't jump high!
therefore they do tricks close to the water surface, just like windsurfers, because windsurfing has been cancelled!

No matter if old or new school:
Just get out there and ride!!!

Board-offs and big air will always be cool- the fact is few riders cant do a boardoff. A board off is not as hard as a mobe- but a board-off is as hard as a simple non inverted 360 handlepass off a kicker. Like Toby says most riders cant boost high enough to even do one-so they gotta talk smack about it.

Yes it can...Every young acrobatic sport has its own phases and so new and old schools.
BUT! What we consider old school today maybe will be again cool one day.

Exemple: two years ago looking at a snowboard video we could see only inverted moves...nowadays, after some years, flat moves stike again!!!
A month ago, during the world cup finals held here in Italy I saw one of the pipe finalists do a so called "double handed rocket air"....aehm...he was 4 meters high...

What?!
.......
Just try a power handlepass 360 with a wave as kicker, before saying that!

Maui,

How sadly mistaken you are. Ask any wakeboarder if a handlepass wake to wake 360 is harder than a backroll and they will tell you the 360. Spins take way more skill to do than inverts becasue so much more is going on.

And yes board offs are old school and lame.
