Hi,
I would like to build a mutant board ~140 cm lenght.
I have divinicell 3mm and 6mm thickness,(total of 4 sheets in size
made for one board).
If i'll use my divinicell, i'll end up with a board 18mm thick. this
is way thiner than most Mutant boards out there.
For some reason, most of the muatants in the market (ie: Naish 4'7,
naish 4'8, SOS, North etc) seem to be much thicker than the avrage
modern twin tips. betweem 2.5cm to 4cm thick in the middle.
I am puzzled, as i do not understand why.
can somebody help?
what happens if i build a thin mutant? how will this affect the
performance of the board?

ron, one of the newcastle guys has a thin mutant and it works fine, you loose the softness of the rail which can help to suck the board down into the water increasing grip and giving a smoother ride in chop.

I had a thought:
riding style on mutant is so that the board is held more flat (paralell to the water) than TT, using the big fins for grip instead of the rail, therefore the rail is rounded... (i guess)...

hey ron I have built 5 mutants I use 1/2" core carefull of how much rocker you use in the nose I'm mentioning this because I learned to jibe the board consistantly and I personaly think it sucks so my new mutants are desingned with less rocker in the nose to allow the board to ride better backwards wich helps if you ride in gusty or crowded conditions basicly allowing you to get going the other way check out norths will james boards

Just one more question:
what is the rail profile you used for the mutants?
is it sharp or rounded?

I shape the rails similar to a surf board about a 45degre on the tail slowly changing to a 90 then ultimately tucking as you get to the front of the board, if your not using any concave keep it fairly knife like all the way throught the rail this makes a big difference as well as rockerline! :thumb:
