why do kiteboards have rocker

Postby surfinsmiley » Thu Oct 14, 2004 9:10 am

so coming from a surfing and boating background i would think that rocker was not needed at all in a kiteboard.
how does it help a kiteboard, won`t it just slow it down. :?: :bang:

on a totally flat board you stand much more chance of catching the nose. if the board is stiff then it will slap like hell and make riding in chop near impossible. it makes landing jumps much harder as the second the tail touches the rest of the board slaps in, rocker slows this progression and makes landing controlable with forward motion. rocker also improves the feel of aboard as you carve around the tail or the nose, it effectively softens the outline seen by the water making turning smoother.

for planing a flat tail and slightly rockered nose is simplest and fastest.
